Does Toyota Prius Fit 3 Across?

As long as your Prius has the 3 seats across the back, it is possible to fit 3 across.

However, there are points you have to consider. In your Prius you will only have 2 isofix anchor points, this needs to be taken into consideration when looking for Toyota Prius car seats. As the middle seat will need to be secured with the seat belt and the use of the tether system to provide maximum safety for your child.

The seats also need to be narrow and not have the seatbelt overlapping when looking at 3 across, which may prevent this being possible in some of the older model Priuses.

The best Toyota Prius baby safety seats and child seats are the Clek and the Diono as they are narrow and can fit 3 across.

Installing a Car Seat to Toyota Prius

With the Toyota Prius not offering generous rear passenger space and only having 2 latch anchor points, installing car seats may be a little trickier.

Using narrow car seats helps with this, as it maximizes the room you have available.

Installing an Infant Car Seat

As the Toyota Prius provides generous door space, it is easy to access the rear seats and install your infant car seat.

By lifting the tab and accessing the anchor points, you can easily secure your newborn car seat base. Once this is in place it is easy to clip the seat in and out when required.

Installing a Rear-Facing Convertible Car Seat

Securing behind the passenger or driver’s seat is relatively easy. You can use the option of either the latch anchor points or the seat belt. Using the latch system however is easier in the Prius.

By lifting a flap in the Prius you are provided great visual sight to the anchors, allowing you to secure the seat with ease.

Installing a Forward-Facing Convertible Car Seat

With all of the 3 rear seats, including tether anchor points, installing a front-facing convertible seat is possible.

The newer Prius models no longer cross over the seat belts, meaning that you can secure with either the seat belt or the latch points.

When securing your convertible seat front facing, using the top tether is extremely beneficial and increases your child’s safety.

Installing a Booster Seat

Installing a booster seat is one of the easiest to secure in the Prius. 2 of the 3 seats will provide you with the option to latch the base in place.

The middle seat, however, is narrow and does not facilitate the latch feature. Therefore a narrow booster without latch fittings would be required.
